On Beliefs

A summary of our communal beliefs is found in the words of the ancient Apostles Creed.

We hold this creed in common with various Christian tribes (Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox) from around the world and across the ages.

However, we don’t think the best way to know what we believe is to read it off a page. When we are handed a sheet of paper or click on a link with a list of statements, something vital is lost. Probably the best way to really learn about the beliefs of a community is to come and see how they are striving to translate those beliefs into ways of living—or better yet, join them and find out from the inside. We invite you to test our beliefs by how they play out in what we do.

We believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again,
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father.
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic** Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
